Have
a question about a development/construction project?
A
Public
Project: Public projects are those funded in whole or
in part by the City of Little Rock. During construction,
an information kiosk is placed on-site with contact names
and telephone numbers. You may also call Civil Engineering
at 501-371-4831 if you any additional concerns or questions.
Private Project:
Private individuals or businesses fund most development
in Little Rock. Questions regarding such activities
should be referred to the development's inspector/foreman on-site. For
further concerns about the development permits or regulations,
contact Civil Engineering at 501-371-4831.
Solid
Waste Services operates a mosquito control program during
summer months and early fall. Truck-mounted mosquito sprayers
cover the entire city with the fogging equipment every
three weeks. Although the chemical used in the spray is
not generally harmful to people, it is requested that
they stay at least 100 feet away from the truck while
it is spraying, and for 5 to 10 minutes after it has passed.
In 2003, Public Works began an expanded program with assistance
from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to identify
and eliminate mosquitoes that could carry the West Nile
Virus (WNV). Traps are placed in key locations throughout
Little Rock to allow identification and the extent of
the various mosquito types. Very few are actually suspected
of carrying WNV. Also, samples are collected from stagnant
water to identify possible larvae concentrations. If found,
the water is treated with a product to eliminate the larvae.
Q
How
do I request a mosquito spray?
A
If
you have an unusual concentration of mosquitoes around
your home, please call Solid Waste Collections at 501-888-2208.
Spraying is only effective for airborne mosquitoes. Eliminating
stagnant water around your home is a more effective way
of minimizing mosquito populations. Water that stands
for about 7 days in pots, gutters, old tires, etc. will
become very active breeding places for mosquitoes.
