HEALTH MATTERS
First Aid for Electric Shock Victims

  1. Don't touch them!
  2. Unplug the appliance or turn off the power at the control panel.
  3. If you can't turn off the power, use a piece of wood, like a broom handle, dry rope or dry clothing, to separate the victim from the power source.
  4. Do not try to move a victim touching a high voltage wire. Call for emergency help.
  5. Keep the victim lying down. Unconscious victims should be placed on their side to allow drainage of fluids. Do not move the victim if there is a suspicion of neck or spine injuries unless absolutely necessary.

If the victim is not breathing, apply mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If the victim has no pulse, begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Then cover the victim with a blanket to maintain body heat, keep the victim's head low and get medical attention.

YES!  THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE!

Every year there are a number of City employees who have accrued more paid time off or vacation time than the maximum allowed.

Paid Time Off or Vacation Time may not be accrued beyond the maximum allowance.  The maximum allowance varies between employee groups.  December 31 is the cutoff date.  Employees are encouraged to monitor their leave accrual to avoid loss of leave time.  If you don’t use it, you may lose it!  In some cases, the time may be rolled over to Short-Term Disability.

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF THE CATASTROPHIC LEAVE BANK?

YOU CAN’T AFFORD

NOT TO BE!

·        Have you ever considered how you are going to pay your bills if you get seriously injured and do not have enough leave time to cover the absence?

Belonging to the Catastrophic Leave Bank can be a “safety net” in such circumstances.
