Officer Henry L. Callanen

 

 

     Officer Callanen, 62, was shot to death on May 15, 1993 at 12:40 a.m. He was working off-duty at the McDonald's restaurant at 3100 Roosevelt Road and was leaving to make a bank deposit when he was confronted be two male suspects. He was shot one time and was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. at Baptist Medical Center. Two suspects were later taken into custody and charged with Capitol Murder.

     At the time of his death Officer Callanen was the senior member of the Little Rock Police Department. In 1992 Chief Louie C. Caudell designated all foot, horse, and bicycle patrol units, "Henry Units", in honor of Officer Callanen's long and distinguished career with the Department. The last fifteen years he was a beat officer in the Downtown area. Officer Callanen joined the Department December 1, 1957
