Detective Sgt. John W. Cabaniss

 

 

      Detective Sgt. Cabaniss was shot at 21st and McAlmont at 9:00 p.m. on 08-12-1922 by special Deputy Marshall John Cross who apparently mistook the officers as men from the railroad strike who were out to get him. Cross was killed by Detective Martin, who was Cabiness's partner.

     Cabaniss joined the department on October 19, 1917 and was promoted to detective on February 1, 1919. He was survived by his wife, one son, and one daughter.
