The Little Rock Zoo

Founded in 1926, the Little Rock Zoo initially started with a timber wolf and a brown bear. Currently, the Little Rock Zoo is home to more than 725 animals and has 350,000 visitors per year.

We invite you to discover this world of exotic animals...gorillas and rhinos from Africa...jaguars and maned wolves from South America...tigers and orangutans from Asia. You will find this "wild" atmosphere to be educational as well as entertaining!

The Zoo is home to over 200 different species of animals, including several endangered species. The Little Rock Zoo is a full participant in the species survival plan, a cooperative conservation program for endangered species at zoos and aquariums in North America. More than twenty individual endangered species are represented at the Little Rock Zoo, which has recently enjoyed successful breeding programs in endangered species such as bush dogs, chimpanzees and the maned wolf.

Visit the Children’s Farm, which encourages kids to go beyond simply petting the animals, and become more involved in learning from a hands-on environment. This exhibit includes the train station, a barn where children can feed domestic animals, a petting area where they can groom animals, a prairie dog exhibit, farm equipment displays, a butterfly garden, a nursery and the Kiwanis Kids Corner, which offers a playground area, as well as an education gazebo for scheduled education programs. Or you can visit Mary and Ellen in their expanded exercise yard, get eye level with the giraffes, or watch the chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans watch you.

Support groups include the Docent Council and Zoo Explorers. In addition to educating our guests, these groups take an active role in planning birthday parties, ZOOfari classes and the ZOOtoYou programs.

Volunteer programs are available for public participation, and educational programs are available either on or off Zoo grounds. Educational programs provided by the Zoo are a unique opportunity afforded by no one else in this area, and a birthday party at the zoo provides memories to last a lifetime.
