Officer Frank Swilling Sr.

 

     Officer Frank Swilling Sr. joined the Little Rock Police Department on August 5, 1924. On December 10th, 1926, Officer Swilling stopped a car at 4th and Main Street for a traffic violation. Officer Swilling was standing beside the automobile when a second car swerved to avoid a collision with a third automobile. As the second swerved it struck Officer Swilling knocking him down. His injuries were not believed to be that serious at the time. Officer Swilling died a short time later. Doctors discovered after Officers Swilling's death that he had a fractured skull. Officer Swilling was described by Chief Rottenberry as a highly efficient officer. Officer Swilling was a member of the Shrine Temple and Albert Pike Consistory. He was the first officer to be killed on Main Street since the installation of electric traffic signals. He was married and had one son at the time of his death.
