May 22, 2002 Home Security Are
you ready for summer?
Your trip is planned and your bags are packed.
Did you remember to turn off the iron, turn on the answering
machine? Lock the door? and turn on the alarm?
Crime Stopper wants to remind you that while you make plans to
vacation this summer make plans to keep your home safe while you are
away.
Some helpful tips include: Test you smoke and Burglar alarms,
Have a neighbor place garbage cans at the curb on your normal pickup
day(s) and return them after the garbage pickup is made, Turn the ringer
down on your telephone.
If a burglar is around he won’t be alerted to you absence by a
ringing phone.
If you have call forwarding on you telephone, forward your calls
to a trusted friend or relative.
Leave your normal message on the answering machine; don’t
announce your absence.
Have a neighbor park in you drive way occasionally or if you
leave your car have them move it from time to time to appear that it is
being used.
Ask police to put your residence on a vacation list for extra
patrol. We hope you have a safe, relaxful vacation and an uneventful return.
