JOB OBJECTIVE:  Supervises the operation of the City of Little Rock Zoo café, ticket booth, and gift shop; maintains records of Zoo membership.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Supervises the overall operations of the City of Little Rock Zoo café, ticket booth, and gift shop; assigns, trains and directs the work activities and monitors the performance of assigned employees; determines and distributes employee work schedules; provides training to new employees.

 

2.         Plans, schedules, and directs special activities for large groups, such as company picnics, family reunions, et cetera, to be held at the Zoo; develops special activities and programs designed to promote awareness and interest in Zoo activities and recommends to Director; assists in the implementation of special activities.

 

3.         Implements and enforces revenue operating policies, procedures, goals and objectives to ensure that assigned personnel and facilities are functioning effectively and efficiently; evaluates cost effectiveness and revenue production of programs; coordinates all financial matters with the Department of Finance.

 

4.         Adds and deletes products from concession menus and retail outlets; monitors the acceptance of changes and the profits and sales of new products and dining programs.

 

5.         Communicates with civic, community, and business leaders; attends meetings; provides and exchanges information to promote catered events at the Zoo; solicits donations.

 

6.         Ensures proper inventory is maintained at café and gift shop; determines items to sell and places orders; organizes displays.

 

7.         Recommends the pricing of items to ensure an adequate profit level and competitive price range.

 

8.         Coordinates contracts and permits for concession/retail/vending operations; ensures contract compliance.

 

9.         Coordinates train services provided by an outside vendor; informs vendor of special events and ensures train services will be provided.

 

10.       Contacts and schedules additional concessionaires to provide special services, such as additional food vendors required for during special events.

 

11.       Ensures bank deposits and reports prepared by employees are accurate; compiles multiple bank deposits and delivers to bank.

 

12.       Compiles data and prepares reports indicating revenue, items sold, inventory and cash on hand; notes special circumstances due to large groups, special events, etc.; prepares other reports as assigned.

 

13.       Establishes and maintains hard copy and computer files and records relating to inventory, revenues, expenses, and related items required for audit purposes.

 

14.       Ensures invoices submitted for payment are accurate.

 

15.       Prepares tentative annual budget figures for the Zoo Concessions budget for approval by supervisor; monitors division budget to ensure sufficient funds remain to purchase supplies and maintain efficient personnel levels.

 

16.       Receives and investigates complaints from the public; handles as appropriate.

 

17.       Monitors the maintenance of café, ticket booth, and gift shop facilities; completes work orders for repairs.

 

18.       Operates a cash register; makes cash register programming changes as required.

 

19.       Operates a microcomputer with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Performs other related duties as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides general supervision to the Zoo Visitor Services Supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and principles.

 

Knowledge of computer fundamentals and business software, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

 

Knowledge of concession, restaurant, or retail sales.

 

Knowledge of budget processes.

 

Skill in the operation of a microcomputer, utilizing database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

 

Skill in the operation of a cash register.

 

Skill in the operation of a ten-key calculator or hand-held calculator.

 

Ability to establish and maintain hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.

 

Ability to monitor the sales and profits of various products.

 

Ability to recommend pricing of food and other items.

 

Ability to monitor the sales of products.

 

Ability to ensure proper inventory control at assigned facilities.

 

Ability to compile data and prepare reports.

 

Ability to collect and balance money and prepare bank deposits.

 

Ability to assign and direct the work activities of assigned personnel.

 

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of college or vocational-technical coursework in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related area, four (4) years of experience in concession, restaurant, or retail sales, or a related area, one (1) year of experience utilizing a microcomputer, and two (2) years of supervisory experience.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
