JOB OBJECTIVE: To provide assistance in the operation of the City of Little Rock Zoo café, ticket booth, and gift shop, and in the maintenance of records of Zoo membership.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides assistance in the overall operations of the City of Little Rock Zoo café, ticket booth, and gift shop; provides training to new employees.
2. Provides assistance in planning, scheduling, and directing special activities for large groups, such as company picnics, family reunions, etc., to be held at the Zoo.
3. Serves as backup to the Zoo Visitor Services Manager.
4. Ensures bank deposits and reports prepared by employees are accurate; compiles multiple bank deposits and delivers to bank.
5. Provides assistance to supervisor in preparing budgets, monitoring inventory control, profit margins, labor costs, and scheduling and supervision of café, ticket booth, and gift shop employees.
6. Operates a microcomputer with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
7. Operates a cash register; makes cash register programming changes as required.
8. Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides assistance in maintaining Zoo membership database, in maintaining current address and volunteer information of members, in processing membership applications and renewals, and in ensuring mailing of renewal notices.
2. Provides assistance in maintaining hard copy and computer files and records relating to inventory, revenues, expenses, and related items required for audit purposes, and in maintaining hard copy and computer files and records relating to admission counts, personnel documentation, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
3. Ensures proper inventory is maintained at café and gift shop; recommends items to sell; places orders; organizes displays.
4. Recommends the pricing of items to ensure an adequate profit level and competitive price range.
5. Collects revenues from vending machines and contracted concessionaires; prepares reports and delivers to Administration.
6. Ensures invoices submitted for payment are accurate.
7. Compiles data and prepares reports indicating revenue, items sold, inventory and cash on hand.
8. Performs other related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Zoo Café Supervisor, part-time and volunteer employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of concession, restaurant, or retail sales.
Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and principles.
Knowledge of computer fundamentals and business software, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Skill in the operation of a microcomputer, utilizing database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Skill in the operation of a cash register.
Skill in the operation of a ten-key calculator or hand-held calculator.
Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.
Ability to establish and maintain hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.
Ability to monitor the sales and profits of various products.
Ability to recommend pricing of food and other items.
Ability to monitor the sales of products.
Ability to ensure proper inventory control at assigned facilities.
Ability to compile data and prepare reports.
Ability to collect and balance money and prepare bank deposits.
Ability to assign and direct the work activities of assigned personnel.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school, two (2) years of experience in concession, restaurant, or retail sales, or a related area, one (1) year of experience utilizing a microcomputer, and one (1) year of leadership experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
