TITLE: Traffic Systems
Technician
JOB
OBJECTIVE: To effectively
maintain the computerized signal light system for the City of Little Rock and
gather information for the determination of signal light settings.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Traffic Systems Engineer for modification of existing systems and for priority
of work.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Inputs
data such as traffic volume, parking conditions or street widths into computer
to obtain printout showing time settings for traffic signals.
2. Collects
traffic data on traffic volume, traffic flow, average traffic speed and other
traffic conditions by use of such equipment as traffic counters and radar guns.
3. Computes
time setting for signals of isolated intersections based on speed limit,
traffic volume, width of intersection, etc., to inform contractors.
4. Inspects
contracted installation of traffic signals to ensure work is performed as
designated in the specifications.
5. Investigates
and responds to citizen complaints on signal malfunctions or traffic flow
problems and makes recommendations to Traffic Engineer.
6. Codes all
conditions of an intersection such as number of lanes, parking, location of
detectors, etc., and enters into computer terminal.
7. Monitors
board showing intersection light changes to ensure traffic is flowing properly.
8. Reviews
information collected from field detectors concerning traffic flow at
designated locations and times.
9. Makes
recommendations as to corrections for an intersection that has traffic flow
problems to supervisor for review.
10. Testifies
in court as expert witness on traffic signals when required.

11. Receives
citizens' reported problems and work priority from supervisor during staff
meetings.
12. Loads
updated disk pack into computer by turning off computer, inputting disk and
coding computer back on.
13. Loads
signal light times and backup times into computer for computer control of
lights; makes changes in signal time when problems occur.
14. Attends
seminars and meeting to keep abreast of changes in the traffic regulation
field.
15. Performs
other related duties as required.
