JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Signal Repair Technician - Senior

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To troubleshoot, repair, and maintain
defective signal control units and other assigned equipment.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the General Foreman and
Traffic Systems Specialist.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Utilizes
test meters and various electronic test equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot
malfunctions in electronic control devices.
2. Troubleshoots,
repairs and performs preventive maintenance on microcomputer, remote control
devices, connection lines, transmitters and receivers.
3. Performs
diagnostic tests on repaired control devices to ensure functioning, according
to engineering specifications and computer programming, before and after
placement in the field.
4. Tests
new electronic equipment to ensure specifications are met and compatibility
with existing computer programs and communications equipment.
5. Prepares
blueprints and schematic diagrams of new test equipment and circuit changes in
electronic control devices.
6. Reviews
proposed changes in signal configuration for specific intersections to ensure
that control devices and controller logic are compatible with the change;
modifies and reprograms controllers to accommodate engineering changes.
7. Assists
in maintaining an inventory of electronic components and replacement parts;
purchases and requisitions needed supplies and components.
8. Provides
training and technical information to other Signal Section employees, regarding
new electronic equipment and special procedures.
9. Provides
working supervision to a Signal Repair Technician.
10. Operates
a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Constructs
electronic test equipment to test specific components and functions of
electronic controllers and computer communications equipment.

2. Completes
a daily log of equipment received for repairs, and work completed.
3. Researches
technical materials and supply catalogs; contacts manufacturer's
representatives to locate compatible replacements for obsolete components.
4. Assists
in maintaining a library of technical manuals for electronic control devices in
service.
5. Performs
other related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general supervision to the Signal
Repair Technician.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Completion of a vocational -
technical school course in basic electronics; at least two (2) years
experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment, including
microprocessors, at least one (1) year of supervisory experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience
and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D
(Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain
licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
