JOB TITLE:  Sign Maintenance Worker

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  June 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To install, repair and maintain traffic control and informational signs and pavement markings.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives direct supervision from a Crew Leader (Traffic) or Leader - Traffic.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Operates hand tools and power tools to install, remove and repair traffic control and informational signs; removes obstructions from areas around signs as necessary.

 

2.         Selects and loads signs, materials and equipment as directed by a Crew Leader (Traffic) or by written work orders.

 

3.         Serves as backup to the Crew Leader during absences by driving assigned truck to the work site and completing daily reports.

 

4.         Drives escort vehicle accompanying paint or thermoplastic striping equipment; sets safety cones or directs traffic at the work sites.

 

5.         Loads paint or thermoplastic striping material into the striping equipment; removes and replaces empty fuel containers fur burners or traffic striping equipment.

 

6.         Operates painting equipment to paint traffic islands; applies glass beads by hand to hand painted and special purpose markings such as islands and curbs.

 

7.         Completes special project assignments by operating sign fabrication equipment in the Sign Shop during inclement weather.

 

8.         Instructs part-time summer employees in sign maintenance work activities.

 

9.         Performs daily checks of fuel, oil and other fluid in assigned vehicles before operating.

 

10.       Operates a microcomputer utilizing specialized sign design and fabrication software.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Familiarity with standards for traffic signs.

 

Skill in the operation of hand tools and power tools.

 

Skill in the operation of medium-duty trucks.

 

Skill in the operation of a microcomputer.

 

Ability to locate specific work sites from work orders and City maps.

 

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

 

Ability to lift and carry weights of up to approximately 75 pounds.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

 

At least one (1) year of experience in sign maintenance; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

 

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
