JOB TITLE:  Service Coordinator II

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  June 1993

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To supervise the prioritization of work orders for corrective and preventive maintenance on City vehicles and equipment; to coordinate work assignment activities between assigned mechanic team members to expedite work completion.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Fleet Maintenance Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Prioritizes work orders for corrective and preventive maintenance based on time received, nature and extent of request, and estimated time required for repairs.

 

2.         Approves established mechanic teamwork schedules and daily work assignments to ensure the completion of work within established time frames; extends time for completion as necessary.

 

3.         Prepares estimates of repair costs, labor, parts and material requirements; weighs costs versus downtime and determines most cost efficient way to repair vehicles and equipment.

 

4.         Determines need for contractual services and writes specifications; secures purchase orders from Fleet Administration.

 

5.         Serves as Fleet Services liaison to top priority departments by keeping departments' representatives informed of work status.

 

6.         Prepares various repair records and reports; recommends changes in maintenance program and procedures to improve productivity.

 

7.         Monitors the record keeping system to ensure the accuracy of maintenance operation information.

 

8.         Provides technical information and assistance to Lead Mechanics as necessary.

 

9.         Provides assistance in the preparation of budget and bid request data.

 

10.       Establishes tentative preventive maintenance and repair priorities for second shift.

 

11.       Instructs employees in safety practices as necessary.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Evaluates the performance of mechanic team members, to ensure work standards are met and adequate training is provided, by monitoring work in progress and completed work orders.

2.         Monitors and maintains the tool, shop equipment and supplies inventory; notifies supervisor of losses.

 

3.         Approves requests from mechanic team members for tools, equipment, supplies and materials from central supply storeroom.

 

4.         Performs road tests and quality control checks on new and repaired vehicles to ensure satisfactory operation.

 

5.         Performs other related duties as required.

Provides general supervision to Lead Mechanics.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Performs skilled trade supervisory work of considerable difficulty in prioritizing, coordinating, and expediting preventive or corrective maintenance on a wide variety of motorized City vehicles and equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Extensive knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the automotive diesel mechanic's trade.

 

Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the vehicle mechanical trade.

 

Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment used in the automotive diesel mechanic's trade.

 

Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of assigned mechanic teams.

 

Ability to direct and coordinate large-scale vehicle preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

 

Ability to maintain records and prepare standard reports.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public.

 

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

 

Graduation from high school; at least four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of automotive and heavy construction equipment; at least two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: 

 

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver's License, before employment.
