JOB TITLE: Semi-Skilled Laborer

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To perform routine manual and semi-skilled
work in the repair, maintenance and construction of City streets and drainage
facilities.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives immediate supervision from a Leader or Public
Works Utility Worker.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Digs
footings, sets forms, mixes and pours concrete for curbs, catch basins and
sidewalks.
2. Operates
hand tools to finish concrete and remove forms.
3. Builds
catch basins and retaining walls by mixing mortar and laying concrete blocks,
bricks or riprap.
4. Operates
the asphalt plant by loading proper amount of materials into the plant and
monitoring the asphalt produced to assure materials are properly mixed.
5. Performs
daily maintenance and cleaning of the asphalt plant; notifies Public Works
Utility Worker of mechanical problems with the asphalt plant.
6. Operates
jack hammer and concrete saw to break up materials for removal from street,
curb or sidewalk areas being repaired.
7. Operates
hand tools to unload, level and pack asphalt in potholes and corporation cuts.
8. Operates
hand and power tools to cut trees, clean drainage ditches and cut grass.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

other related duties as required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Some
knowledge
of concrete finishing and masonry work.
Skill in the operation of hand
and light power tools, including jackhammer, concrete saw, pick and shovel.
Ability to perform manual and
semi-skilled labor in various weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry weights
of up to 75 pounds routinely.
Ability to understand and follow
oral instructions.
ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
At least
two (2) years of experience in performing manual labor related to street and drainage facility
repair and maintenance; OR any
equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
