JOB TITLE: Route Coordinator
MAINTENANCE

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To maintain records of sanitation routes and
recommend any needed changes in routes.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Solid Waste
Collection Foreman.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains
and updates maps of current collection routes; provides maps of new routes and
route changes to Sanitation Equipment Operators.
2. Visits
areas to be annexed to determine the number of houses and potential problem
areas with new routes.
3. Follows
established routes to identify problem areas and ensure work loads for all
routes are similar.
4. Recommends
changes in collection routes and type of collection vehicles to be used;
recommends route assignments in annexed areas.
5. Completes
standard report forms listing distance, number of houses and amount of refuse
for each route.
6. Maintains
files of all route change recommendations.
7. Provides
information and answers questions from members of the public regarding
collection routes and procedures as required; investigates citizen complaints
as assigned.
8. Provides
information to the Solid Waste Collection Foreman for special projects.
9. Operates
a City automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves
as backup to the Dispatcher, Equipment Operators, and Refuse Collectors in
their absence.
3. Performs
other related duties as required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good
knowledge
of established refuse collection procedures.
Skill in the operation of solid
waste collection vehicles and light duty vehicles.
Ability to update maps of
collections routes.
Ability to locate areas on maps.
Ability to communicate tactfully
and effectively with refuse collection employees and members of the public.
Ability to perform simple
mathematical calculations.
Ability to maintain simple records
and repair standard reports.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
grade school; at least two (2) years of experience in refuse collection;
OR any equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENT:
Must possess
a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before
employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this
position.
