JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Recycling Program Educator
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: December 1998

JOB OBJECTIVE: To perform all activities for informing and teaching members of the public about recycling by developing and presenting classes to schools and other organizations.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Solid Waste Services Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Presents recycling programs to schools, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood associations and other organizations.
2. Prepares training materials, including lesson plans with identified learning objectives, and any other materials needed for presentations to classes and other groups; develops and ensures availability of needed handout material for presentations.
3. Maintains hard copy files and records of all training activities, including type of presentation, materials presented, and details of each group trained.
4. Prepares regular monthly and special narrative reports listing the number and type of presentations presented and information regarding the persons trained.
5. Provides information and assists in the preparation of public service announcements (PSAs) and news releases for use in educating the public regarding recycling and related topics.
6. Maintains a library of educational materials, such as audiovisual slides, tapes, and other teaching aids, including books, periodicals and newsletters, for use by the public and Department personnel.
7. Maintains a calendar of scheduled presentations to ensure that all requested programs are prepared and presented in a timely manner and without scheduling conflicts; provides information to supervisor for planning, scheduling, and presenting training classes.
8. Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of training techniques and methods.
Some knowledge of educational and training materials, equipment, and tools.
Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.
Ability to develop training materials.
Ability to assist in the preparation of public service announcements (PSAs) and news releases.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, with individuals and groups, and in writing.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of two (2) years of college coursework in Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related area; two (2) years experience in developing and presenting training programs, or related area; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
