JOB TITLE:  Recreation Supervisor (Athletics)

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  April 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To plan, organize, and supervise activities of recreational programs and facilities for youth and adults.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Parks Recreation Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Evaluates athletic programs' cost/benefit ratio based on revenues generated, number of participants and other criteria.

 

2.         Writes and updates team sports manuals for consistent and effective athletic program operation.

 

3.         Researches and analyzes data for recommendions to the Recreation Programs Manager concerning additions, deletions and changes in programs or facilities; implements approved changes.

 

4.         Selects, trains and supervises the activities of full-time, part-time, temporary, and contract personnel.

 

5.         Prepares bid specifications and requisitions for new equipment; purchases some items directly.

 

6.         Interprets rules and mediates disagreements of league games; levies disciplinary action for unruly behavior of program participants, ranging from suspension to disqualification from programs and facilities.

 

7.         Monitors program expenditures and ensures budgets are not exceeded; derives budget figures from previous year's budget.

 

8.         Performs research to determine recreational needs of area and costs of providing programs to fill those needs; recruits participants for new recreational programs.

 

9.         Receives team registration, player participation and facility rental fees; prepares money for deposit with Finance.

 

10.       Establishes standards for facilities and athletic programs, activities and participation.

 

11.       Establishes and maintains program and activity schedules, including activities scheduled by outside organizations.

12.       Operates City pool automobile to visit facilities.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Operates a microcomputer for maintaining athletic program records and processing data, i.e., team and player registration, contractual employee payroll, league schedules and standings and expenditures.

 

2.         Maintains inventory of athletic equipment.

 

3.         Confers with various local, state and national sports organizations for the development and implementation of athletic programs and encouragement of local participation.

 

4.         Answers questions from public regarding athletic programs.

 

5.         Performs other related duties as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provides general supervision to the Assistant Recreation Supervisor and immediate supervision to a Leader (Parks Ball Fields).
