JOB TITLE: Recreation Programs Coordinator

JOB OBJECTIVE: To ensure the Parks and Recreation
Department's special recreation programs are planned, coordinated, scheduled
and publicized within seasonal time frames; to plan and direct recreational
activities for senior citizens.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Deputy Director for Parks Recreation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensures materials and planning for
recreational activities such as the Easter Egg Hunt, and other special
recreation activities are prepared in a timely manner.
2. Edits and distributes a biannual
newspaper to schools and Recreation Centers for the City's Parks and Recreation
Department informing the public of seasonal programs and activities.
3. Plans and schedules a variety of social
events and educational programs based on the needs and interests of
participating senior citizens.
4. Plans work schedules of and assigns
work to Play Leaders, Recreation Leaders and Program Volunteers.
5. Requisitions supplies for classes and
center operation.
6. Compiles and distributes the
Department's calendar of special events, as the season for each event arrives.
7. Compiles revenue and attendance data
from Recreation Centers and submits a monthly and annual activity report on
program participation.
8. Maintains files on all related
programs, events, participation and activities.
9. Photographs activities of Recreation
Center and Departmental activities for Parks and Recreation Department
newspaper and prepares slides for presentations for schools and other groups.
10. Recruits senior citizens' participation
by visiting and presenting programs at churches and social events and by
preparing various types of public service announcements; operates a City pool
automobile.
11. Attends community meetings and workshops
to obtain information necessary for and to develop interest in recreation
programs.

SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Directs the operation of the daily
nutrition program at the Adult Center according to the regulations of the
County Council on Aging.
2. Schedules instructors for classes in
various arts and crafts, nutrition or physical fitness; sets length of class
based on budgetary restrictions.
3. Provides assistance to Recreation
Center Supervisors in the planning of activities for the Recreation Centers.
4. Maintains records of full-time and part-time
hours worked for Recreation Center employees and submits to supervisor.
5. Prepares and circulates informational
news releases regarding recreational activities.
6. Maintains a file of medical and
emergency information for each senior citizen participant.
7. Performs other related duties as
required.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general supervision to the Adult Center
Supervisor, Recreation Leader, part-time, temporary, contract, and volunteer
staff.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of the special
nutritional, recreational, social and medical needs of older people.
Some knowledge of community
recreation principles and practices.

of recreation equipment.
Familiarity with a variety of arts and
crafts.
Skill in the operation of an automatic
transmission automobile.
Ability to direct the activities of assigned

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally,
with individuals and groups, and in writing.
Ability to maintain records of participants,
classes offered, revenues collected and employees' work time.
Ability to perform basic mathematical
calculations.
Ability to plan and coordinate group programs,
activities and events.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of two (2) years college level course work
in Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, Recreation Administration or related
areas; at least one (1) year of experience in social work or community
service; OR any equivalent combination
of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial
Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the
duration of employment in this position.
