JOB TITLE: Public Works Utility Worker
MAINTENANCE

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To maintain a supply of materials, equipment
and replacement parts used by the Street Section; to maintain and repair equipment
and tools.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Foreman I (Streets).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains
a supply of hand tools, regularly used supplies, and vehicle maintenance parts
such as oil, filters, and fan belts; purchases or requisitions needed tools and
supplies up to $100.
2. Maintains
an inventory of tools, supplies and materials listing purchases, materials used
and materials in stock.
3. Issues
tools, supplies, vehicle keys and equipment to the appropriate Street
Section employees; maintains daily records listing the employee receiving tools
and supplies.
4. Notifies
the Street Maintenance Superintendent of unreturned and damaged equipment and
cases of unreported employee accidents.
5. Operates
a City pickup truck to run errands, pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
6. Operates
bench grinders and hand tools to repair and sharpen various tools used by
Street Section employees; operates a cutting torch to cut material
reinforcements for concrete structures; operates an electric welder to perform
minor repair on street sweepers and mowing equipment.
7. Operates
tractors, heavy-duty vehicles and street repair and maintenance equipment to
deliver equipment needing repair or scheduled maintenance to the Vehicle
Maintenance Shop.
8. Provides
routine maintenance and repairs to street sweepers and other equipment.
9. Operates
a forklift to unload and store supplies.
10. Assigns
and directs the activities of a Semi-Skilled Laborer and Laborer in issuing
supplies during the absence of Public Works Utility Worker.
11. Assigns
and directs the activities of Semi-Skilled Laborers in the operation of the
asphalt plant apparatus.
12. Inspects
and repairs street caution lights.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Skill in the operation of hand
and light power tools, including bench grinder, cutting torch, and electric
welder.
Skill in the operation of light
and heavy vehicles, tractors, forklifts, and various street repair and
maintenance equipment.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
At least
one (1) year of experience in semi-skilled manual labor; OR
any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess
a valid Arkansas Class A or B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before
employment; must
obtain a valid Arkansas Class A (Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License with X
endorsement within sixty (60) days of employment and maintain licensure for
duration of employment in this position.
Must possess
certification as a forklift operator within six (6) months of employment and
maintain certification for duration of employment in this position.
