JOB OBJECTIVE:
To facilitate the storage of all items coming into the possession of the
Police Department; to maintain and enter information into a computerized
inventory system to account for all items submitted, accepted, retained and
disposed.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Receives immediate supervision from the Property Management
Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:
1. Accepts submitted and releases stored
property; enters information into a computerized property inventory system,
accounting for the complete disposition of property or evidentiary items
submitted, accepted, released and destroyed.
2. Ensures the maintenance of all
property, files and records.
3. Determines the status of items
classified as stored or found; notifies supervisor; retains or removes the
items for destruction, in accordance with established procedures, where
ownership of the article cannot be determined.
4. Performs a check and double-check
system for all narcotics and weapons submitted and retained for storage;
suggests changes in procedures as necessary and implements upon supervisory
approval.
5. Assists in the preparation of a listing
of items meeting established criteria for sale or destruction; removes those
items from storage with supervisory approval; serves as witness to the actual
sale or destruction.
6. Accepts and stores weapons and
narcotics; ensures the safety of each stored weapon and maintains all required
evidentiary paperwork; reviews the disposition of all stored weapons and
narcotics to determine which can be released and which are to be scheduled for
destruction or removal; notifies supervisor as to current status.
7. Assists in destruction or disposal of
all property such as weapons, narcotics, etc.; performs the destruction or
disposal in accordance with established procedures; serves as witness to the
destruction or disposal.
8. Transports property and evidence from
other locations to the main property room.
9. Completes forms and documents chain of
custody through computer-generated labels and printouts.
10. Operates a City pool automobile in the
performance of essential job functions.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains the clean, safe and orderly
condition of the Police Department's property storage room and ensures the
orderly placement, organization, and inventory entry of items within the
property room.
2. Notifies property owners of property
items stored and cleared for release; ensures the disposition and computerized
entry of each item of property in accordance with established procedures.
3. Notifies appropriate parties in
reference to evidence stored, to determine when the evidence can be scheduled
for disposal and notifies supervisor as to the current status; ensures the
proper disposition and chain of custody of all stored evidence in accordance
with established procedures.
4. Adheres to established safety procedures
for the handling of possibly contaminated or infected evidence and property,
and weapons and property storage safety standards.
5. Places items in the property storage
area to ensure proper storing for safety, maximum space utilization, easy access
and identification.
6. Testifies in court regarding areas of
responsibility.
7. Maintains supplies at other storage facility locations,
including envelopes, evidence tape, and labels.
8. Assists in the preparation of monthly,
quarterly, semi-annual and annual inventory and property disposition reports,
and other correspondence utilizing word-processing and spreadsheet software.
9. Performs other related duties as
assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Some knowledge of inventory principles and practices.
Some knowledge of property storage principles and
procedures.
Familiarity with law enforcement evidentiary
procedures and practices.

Ability to compile concise and accurate reports.
Ability to maintain a computerized property
inventory system.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally
and in writing.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE
AND TRAINING:
Completion of high school;
at least one (1) year of experience in law enforcement related property
storage and inventory, warehousing and inventory control, or a related area; OR an equivalent combination of training
and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid
Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and
maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
