JOB
OBJECTIVE: To assist with the daily operation of the
probation program and to provide general support services for the Community
Services Section of the Traffic Court.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Probation Officer -
Senior.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides
assistance in the pre-sentence investigation interview by collecting data,
taking photographs, checking records and completing necessary forms.
2. Reviews
court records for violations by defendants and determines eligibility for the
Unsupervised Probation Program; processes and distributes forms, tickets, and
appropriate fees.
3. Operates
a microcomputer for verifying records of prior offenses from local, county, and
state agencies to assist the judge in determining case disposition during night
court; disseminates information to defendant, attorneys and other authorized
persons.
4. Sends
requests for release of information to obtain education, employment and medical
or psychological records as directed by the Community Service Programs
Supervisor.
5. Provides
assistance to Probation Officers in the processing of time pay agreements.
6. Maintains
files and records and updates unsupervised probation and defensive driving
requirements..
7. Types
and files probation pre-sentence reports, investigations, contracts,
affidavits, and other related material and correspondence.
8. Provides
assistance in the preparation of monthly probation reports.
9. Serves
as backup to the Court Clerks by answering the telephone, hearing complaints
from the public, taking pleas from attorneys, and returning drivers' licenses.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable
knowledge
of proper filing and record keeping systems.
Good
knowledge
of appropriate legal guidelines governing probation.
Good
knowledge
of courtroom procedures and practices.
Skill in the operation of a
typewriter.
Skill in the operation of a
computer terminal.
Skill in the operation of a
microcomputer, utilizing word processing software.
Ability to maintain detailed files
and records.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
high school; at least two (2) years of general clerical experience; at
least one (1) year of experience in microcomputer use; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides
the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
