TITLE: Police Sergeant
(Traffic Services Section)
JOB
OBJECTIVE: To perform a
variety of tasks in the supervision of Police Officers under command, within an
assigned squad.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the
Police Lieutenant for work assignments, review of work and all written reports.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receives
daily assignments from the Lieutenant of Traffic Services Section for areas of
patrol and special events occurring within the City such as visiting
dignitaries, parades, money transfers from fine collection to local banks, etc.
2. Schedules
work assignments for officers under command such as patrol districts, traffic
control for special events (i.e., parades, visiting dignitaries, etc.), and the
pickup of money from parking meter violations.
3. Conducts
weekly meetings with officers under command to assign patrol areas, to brief
officers on policies/procedures and assignments needing special attention.
4. Supervises
officers under command in the field by providing direct working supervision.
5. Assists
in the interview and selection of personnel for the School Crossing Guard
positions.
6. Completes
semiannual performance evaluation reports on senior officers, monthly
performance evaluation reports on new officers and payroll records of all
officers under command.
7. Attends
monthly Little Rock Safety Commission meetings.
8. Notifies
by telephone the Traffic Division of the City of Little Rock Public Works
Department regarding any traffic related problems requiring their attention.
9. Makes
recommendations on voiding parking and moving violations tickets issued in
error.
10. Makes
necessary arrangements for the rental of parking meter hoods.

11. Organizes
all special assignments requiring traffic control by assigning officers,
completing all pertinent forms and maintenance of files on all special
assignments.
12. Reviews
plans of annexation by the City of Little Rock and determines any related
traffic problems which may occur as a result of the annexation.
13. Attends
and testifies in court when required.
14. Meets
with Lieutenant of the Patrol Division to assist in the preparation of the
Patrol Division budget, activity reports and writes correspondence for the
Patrol Division.
15. Trains
new officers assigned to Traffic Services Section.
16. Issues
subpoenas to officers under command to attend court.
17. Performs
other related duties as required.

Provides
general supervision to Police Officers under command within an assigned
squad.
