JOB TITLE: Police Sergeant (Street Crimes Unit)

OBJECTIVE: To supervise Police Officers assigned to the
Street Crimes Unit to ensure individuals wanted for major felonies are searched
for and apprehended.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Police Lieutenant
(Special Operations).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises
the daily work activities of assigned Officers and provides assistance and
guidance as required.
2. Ensure
policies and procedures are followed when assigned officers search for and
arrest individuals wanted for major felonies; ensures crime scenes and related
evidence are secured.
3. Evaluates
the performance of assigned Officers; recommends disciplinary action when
required.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts
the daily line-up meeting to inform Officers of information regarding criminal
activities needing special attention, crime trends, surveillance assignments,
changes in policies and procedures, etc.
2. Prepares
daily work schedules for assigned Officers; approves and schedules leave time
for assigned Officers, ensuring adequate coverage of duties and
responsibilities.
3. Reviews
and approves incident forms and other documents prepared by assigned Officers.
4. Testifies
in court as required.
5. Prepares
monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual narrative and statistical reports;
conducts research and prepares special reports as required.
6. Inspects
equipment assigned to the squad to ensure it remains functional and in good
repair.
7. Investigates
and responds to service complaints lodged against assigned Officers.
8. Studies
information received from the Crime Analysis Unit and the Detective Division to
keep abreast of crime trends and to develop strategic plans to diminish
criminal activities.
