OBJECTIVE: To receive and serve warrants on individuals
wanted for criminal and traffic violations.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant
(Warrants).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Receives
criminal and traffic warrants which contain information such as the wanted
individual's name, address, and place of employment.
2. Mails
notices to individuals which have outstanding traffic or misdemeanor warrants,
informing them of the warrant and requesting them to report to the Police
Department.
3. Searches
for individuals who have outstanding felony warrants or individuals with
traffic or misdemeanor warrants who do not report to the Police Department as
requested.
4. Determines
whether or not to force entry into a house to serve a warrant; contacts
supervisor for assistance with difficult situations.
5. Serves
warrants on individuals who report to the Police Department or individuals who
are located during a search.
6. Prepares
a report form for each individual with an outstanding warrant that cannot be
located, indicating the dates, times, and places where the officer conducted
the search.
7. Transports
individuals wanted for criminal offenses to the Police Department to be booked;
transports individuals wanted for traffic offences to the Police Department in
order for them to pay their fines, post bond, or be booked.
8. Completes
arrest reports when booking individuals into jail.
9. Assigns
court dates for misdemeanor charges, if the individual will sign a citation to
appear.
10. Modifies
warrant information in the computer by entering the date the warrant was served
and the name of the Officer serving the warrant.
11. Serves
truancy warrants; accompanies court personnel to serve packets of information
on parents of truant students to notify them of the scheduled court date and
explain the court procedures.

12. Inspects
car lots to ensure they are in compliance with laws and ordinances (i.e., to
ensure they have a locking file cabinet, a telephone, a sign which is visible
from the street, etc.); prepares a car lot inspection report form.
13. Serves
probate orders for the Mental Health Court as required.
14. Handles
extraditions and transports in-state prisoners.
15. Serves
as backup to other Officers assigned to the Records and Support Division;
supervises civilian Records and Support personnel as required.
16. Performs
other related duties as required.
