JOB OBJECTIVE:  To perform a variety of tasks involving the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Creates and maintains confidential sources of information concerning organized crime.

 

2.         Investigates reports of criminal activity related to organized crime such as gambling, prostitution, bootlegging, etc.

 

3.         Completes memoranda reports relating all details when an informant reveals information.

 

4.         Conducts periodic checks on alcohol beverage outlets to ensure they are abiding by law as far as the sale of alcohol.

 

5.         Conducts background investigations of all applications for alcohol licenses and surveys neighborhood for public opinion; makes recommendations to Chief.

 

6.         Sets up the placement of bets, illegal purchases of alcohol, or prostitution offers to obtain grounds for arrest using informants, young officers, etc.

 

7.         Questions individuals arrested to obtain all possible information pertaining to the case or revealing other violators.

 

8.         Completes case file for each arrest giving personal background of person arrested, arrest reports, rights form if felony, photographs and statement sheets.

 

9.         Makes periodic checks of pornography films to ensure laws setting content limits are obeyed; arrests homosexuals when advances are made.

 

10.       Completes Money Spent Report when spending City money to make a buy.

 

11.       Maintains files of arrests, liquor permits and informants.

 

12.       Testifies in court when necessary.

 

13.       Practices periodically on shooting range to meet annual standards exam.

 

14.       Performs other related duties as required.
