JOB TITLE: Police Officer (Special Traffic Accident Reduction Team)

OBJECTIVE: To enforce traffic laws and ordinances to
attempt to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the City of Little Rock.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant
(Special Traffic Accident Reduction Team).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates
a radar device to determine the speed of vehicles; issues traffic citations to
individuals in violation of speed and other traffic laws and ordinances.
2. Patrols
designated areas of the City to identify individuals in violation of traffic
laws and ordinances, including individuals driving while under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
3. Performs
field sobriety tests (i.e., eye gaze, one leg stand, walk and turn, etc.) on
individuals suspected of DWI; utilizes a portable breath analyzer on DWI
suspects when necessary.
4. Transports
DWI suspects who do not pass field sobriety tests to the detention facility for
further testing.
5. Performs
reconstruction duties (i.e., calculates the speed of involved vehicles,
determines the point of impact, etc.) at the scenes of accidents involving
serious injuries or fatalities.
6. Serves
as backup to patrol officers by responding to calls from individuals needing
police assistance.
7. Performs
traffic services at special events as required.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts
urine tests on DWI suspects and forwards the urine specimen to the State Crime
Lab for analysis; accommodates suspects requesting blood tests by having them
transported to a hospital or allowing a doctor to perform the test at the
detention facility.
2. Completes
required forms and reports, including a blood alcohol report form, to charge
individuals with DWI.
3. Reports
to the hospital and ensures that blood is drawn from persons who were injured
in traffic accidents which might have been DWI related.

4. Testifies
in court regarding traffic citations which were issued, DWI arrests, and
reconstruction calculations performed at accidents involving serious injuries
or fatalities.
5. Answers
questions and provides information to citizens regarding laws and ordinances.
6. Performs
other related duties as required.
