JOB TITLE:  Police Officer (Motorcycle Squad)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To perform a variety of tasks involving the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant for work assignments, review of work performance and written reports.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Patrols an assigned district on a motorcycle to prevent and/or apprehend violators of traffic laws and ordinances.

 

2.         Apprehends violators and issues tickets.

 

3.         Directs traffic when traffic conditions become hazardous to motorists and pedestrians.

 

4.         Sets up radar to enforce speed zone laws in assigned districts and issues moving violations tickets to violators.

 

5.         Escorts and directs traffic at special events occurring within the City, such as visiting dignitaries, ball games, State Fair, parades and money transfers from local banks, etc.

 

6.         Ensures that construction companies/operators abide by all laws and ordinances pertaining to weight of loaded material, debris left on street and issues tickets when a violation occurs.

 

7.         Maintains radio communication with the Communication and Traffic Services Sections and Traffic Division of the City of Little Rock, Public Works Department.

 

8.         Receives daily work assignments via telephone from the Traffic Services Section Sergeant.

 

9.         Answers requests for backup unit when required.

 

10.       Trains new officers assigned to Traffic Services Section when special assignments warrant additional personnel.

 

11.       Attends pistol range as required.

 

12.       Attends and testifies as the arresting officer in court when required.

13.       Answers calls involving traffic accidents; checks for injuries; interviews parties involved and witnesses; takes written statements; examines vehicles and roadways; observes traffic control devices and obstructions to view; takes related street measurements with roller tape measure and prepares detailed accident investigation reports.

 

14.       Performs other related duties as required.
