JOB TITLE:  Police Officer (Larceny)

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  September 1993

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To investigate assigned larceny cases; to establish and maintain investigation files and records.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant (Larceny).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Receives larceny case assignments (i.e., credit card fraud, forgeries, computer fraud, embezzlements, etc.) from supervisor and initiates the investigation process.

 

2.         Establishes and maintains comprehensive files for each investigation.

 

3.         Contacts victims, witnesses, etc. to obtain statements and gather information pertaining to assigned cases.

 

4.         Schedules meetings with witnesses and/or victims in order for them to review photospreads of possible suspects.

 

5.         Interviews suspects and informants to gather information for each case.

 

6.         Maintains contact with other law enforcement agencies to obtain their assistance with investigations or to interview suspects they have apprehended for crimes which may be related to those under investigation by the Little Rock Police Department larceny squad.

 

7.         Coordinates suspect lineups, which involves scheduling witnesses, obtaining personnel from the jail to act as fillers, advising the suspect of his lineup rights, and scheduling the suspect's attorney to be present during the lineup proceedings.

 

8.         Prepares supplemental report forms which detail the status of each case; contacts individuals involved in each case to notify them of status changes.

 

9.         Obtains and executes arrest or search and seizure warrants.

 

10.       Arrests suspects, reads them their rights, and ensures they sign the required forms.

 

11.       Maintains evidence related to each case in accordance with departmental procedures.

 

12.       Retrieves case file information and evidence to prepare for court appearances; attends court to testify regarding assigned cases.

 

13.       Obtains handwriting samples from suspects involved in forgery ceases and transports evidence to the State Crime Lab.

14.       Ensures that stolen checks, credit cards and property with serial numbers are entered into the computer system.

 

15.       Attends monthly meetings with Security Officers from local banks to exchange information regarding recent larceny activity.

 

16.       Conducts security profiles for local business owners to inform them of the various ways to improve their business security.

 

17.       Performs other related duties as required.
