JOB TITLE: Police Officer (Crime Analysis)

OBJECTIVE: To enter crime data into the computer system
for use by departmental personnel; to analyze crime data to identify crime
trends.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant
(Research and Development).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Enters
data (i.e., type of crime, time of crime, weapons used, victim and suspect
biographic information, etc.) from police reports into the computer system.
2. Generates
computerized reports which detail crime data; analyzes crime data to identify
crime patterns.
3. Prepares
maps which highlight the types of crime occurring in each district on each
shift; distributes maps to the Patrol Division for their information.
4. Answers
questions and provides information to Police Officers and detectives regarding
various types of crimes occurring in specific geographic locations.
5. Prepares
maps which detail auto theft, robberies, automobile robberies, and burglaries
for use by Detective Division personnel and Patrol Officers.
6. Prepares
crime information maps for utilization by neighborhood watch groups and
community oriented policing staff.
7. Enters
data from field interview cards into the computer system; forwards the cards to
the Detective and Special Investigation Divisions for filing.
8. Enters
names of individuals from field interview cards into the computer system to
check for warrants; notifies appropriate personnel when active warrants exist.
9. Prepares
graphs, charts, fact sheets, etc., for the Chief of Police to use in special
presentations.
10. Prepares
monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual statistical reports regarding crime
data and crime trends.
11. Distributes
copies of patrol sheets to various Police Department divisions for their
information.
12. Performs other related duties as
required.
