JOB TITLE:  Police Officer (Community Oriented Policing)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To patrol an assigned area in the City of Little Rock, via horseback, bicycle, or foot, in order to enforce laws and ordinances and to serve as a community liaison.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant (Community Oriented Policing)

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Checks out required equipment each day; checks out vehicles as required due to poor weather conditions, etc.

 

2.         Patrols an assigned area of the City, via horseback, bicycle, or foot, to observe criminal and traffic violations; makes arrests and/or issues citations to violators.

 

3.         Responds to calls from individuals in assigned areas needing police assistance (i.e., domestic disturbances, burglaries in progress, disturbances with weapons, traffic accidents, etc.); makes arrests and/or issues citations to violators when required.

 

4.         Ensures crime scenes and related evidence are secured; records information received from victims, witnesses and suspects for inclusion in required reports or for use by the Detective Division.

 

5.         Completes incident or accident reports and other related forms for each call, or codes the call when possible.

 

6.         Stores property found at crime scenes, confiscated from individuals, or found by citizens.

 

7.         Ensures horses are fed and properly cared for and notifies supervisor when a horse is hurt or sick, if applicable.

 

8.         Ensures horse equipment and tack or bicycles and related equipment are properly maintained, if applicable.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Attends the daily line-up meeting to receive information from supervisor regarding criminal activities needing special attention, criminal statistical data in assigned areas of patrol, changes in policies and procedures, etc.

 

2.         Attends neighborhood meetings to provide information and assistance to community members; meets with Alert Center Facilitators to coordinate special events in assigned areas.

3.         Testifies in court regarding criminal and traffic citations and/or arrests.

 

4.         Answers questions and provides information to citizens regarding laws and regulations.
