JOB TITLE:  Police Officer (Airport)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To patrol the Airport and surrounding grounds to enforce laws and ordinances.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant (Airport).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Patrols the Airport building and surrounding grounds to prevent criminal activity or to apprehend violators of laws and ordinances.

 

2.         Answers calls and notifies appropriate authorities in case of fires, bomb threats, passengers requiring medical attention, etc.

 

3.         Ensures the evacuation of persons in the Airport in case of fires, bomb threats, or any other situation which could be potentially dangerous.

 

4.         Stores articles which have been lost by Airport patrons, and releases the items upon proper identification; pages missing persons.

 

5.         Escorts visiting dignitaries through the Airport terminal and assists other law enforcement personnel with prisoner escorts.

 

6.         Enforces parking meter and traffic rules and regulations on the Airport grounds.

 

7.         Reports to the scene of vehicle accidents occurring on Airport grounds; prepares an informational report for each accident.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Maintains radio communication with other officers patrolling the Airport building and surrounding grounds to ensure security coverage.

 

2.         Completes required forms for each incident, including forms required by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration.

 

3.         Testifies in court regarding incidents at the Airport as required.

 

4.         Answers questions and provides information to Airport patrons and employees regarding weather conditions, directions, and laws and regulations governing articles being carried on board flights.

 

5.         Attends seminars and in-service training courses to keep informed of changes in laws and regulations or to learn additional information regarding hijackings, bomb threats, etc.
