JOB TITLE:  Police Lieutenant (Patrol, Airport, Traffic Services Section)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To perform a variety of tasks involving the supervision of Police Officers and Police Sergeants in an assigned division of the Police Department.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Captain for review of reports submitted and work assignments.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Checks incoming mail for reports on wanted persons, criminal activities and problem areas of the City needing special attention.

 

2.         Makes work assignments for Sergeants under command and briefs Sergeants on reports on wanted persons, criminal activities and problem areas needing special attention.

 

3.         Attends shift lineup.

 

4.         Reviews all reports such as daily activity reports completed by Sergeants under command.

 

5.         Reviews and recommends disciplinary actions for officers under command.

 

6.         Attends Administrative hearings with officers under command.

 

7.         Completes performance evaluations on Sergeants under command, reviews performance evaluations completed by Sergeants on officers under command and submits all evaluations to the Captain of Patrol Division.

 

8.         Advises and participates in the supervision of investigation of major crimes.

 

9.         Maintains communication with Sergeants under command to ensure efficiency of performance.

 

10.       Attends staff meetings, schools and seminars to discuss and keep informed of new methods involved in police community relations, police supervision and the handling of all disciplinary problems.

 

11.       Prepares and submits comprehensive reports to the Division Captain at the end of investigations concerning police problems and actions taken, disciplinary problems in unit and infraction of rules by subordinates.

 

12.       Performs other related duties as required.
