JOB OBJECTIVE:  Performs various routine duties in all divisions of the Police Department.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Stores, attaches identifying tags and records required information on any property brought into the Police Department or held as evidence.

 

2.         Issues keys, shotguns and radios to Police Officers; maintains a log of equipment issued, by entering information into a computer terminal.

 

3.         Contacts persons involved in court cases or Police investigations to obtain information needed by officers or to notify individuals of subpoenas.

 

4.         Issues citations for illegally parked vehicles.

 

5.         Testifies in court cases involving parking citations, information collected or maintained by Cadets.

 

6.         Contacts state agencies to obtain information as required; transports misdemeanor narcotics to the State Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

 

7.         Transports Police vehicles to the vehicle Maintenance Shop for repair or routine servicing.

 

8.         Serves as tour guide for groups visiting the Police Department; visits schools to present information about special Police Department programs to students.

 

9.         Participates in undercover activities by attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages or by receiving propositions for prohibited sexual activities.

 

 

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Performs other related duties as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.

 

Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with Police Department personnel, members of the public and employees of other agencies.

 

Ability to maintain records.

 

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.;.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's license before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

 

Employees in the classification must be between the ages of 17 ˝ and 19 ˝ before employment; will not be permitted to continue employment in this classification beyond the age of twenty-one (21), unless otherwise authorized by the Chief of Police; and must successfully complete the Police Officer testing and selection process and complete the first Little Rock Police Academy following their twenty-first (21st) birthday, unless otherwise authorized by the Chief of Police.
