JOB TITLE: Planning Technician
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: June 2001

JOB OBJECTIVE: To prepare materials required for consideration of rezoning and subdivision applications.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Zoning and Subdivision Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Reviews rezoning and subdivision applications to ensure all information required for processing the application is complete, including names of owners, developers and engineers, legal descriptions and other identifying information; notifies applicants of information needed to complete application.
2. Photocopies and distributes agenda sheets and plats to utility companies, affected City departments and other affected agencies for comments regarding each application to be reviewed.
3. Notifies applicants and other affected individuals and agencies of schedules of Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings by mailing copies of agenda packets; contacts Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment members on the day of the scheduled meeting to remind them of meetings.
4. Prepares standard correspondence to notify applicants of Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission decisions.
5. Researches files of Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment decisions to locate specific information requested by members of the public or Departmental personnel.
6. Prepares monthly and annual reports listing numbers and types of applications, Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission decisions and special activities such as annexations and street closings.
7. Answers questions and provides information to callers and visitors; directs callers to appropriate personnel.
8. Maintains various hard copy files, including Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment meeting minutes and decisions.
9. Operates a microcomputer with word processing software.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares legal advertisements to notify the public of Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings including scheduled agenda items and descriptions of areas being considered.
2. Maintains a roster of Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment members.
3. Performs other related duties as required.

Good knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
Good knowledge of hard copy filing and record-keeping systems.
Some knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Some knowledge of basic mathematical principles.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of high school; at least two (2) years of general
clerical experience; OR any
equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
