JOB TITLE: Planner I (Planning)

OBJECTIVE: To assemble and analyze data, prepare plans
and provide information to citizens concerning various planning issues.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Planner II.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Answers
questions and provides information to citizens, developers, and other
interested parties regarding planning procedures.
2. Attends
neighborhood association and other organization meetings to answer questions,
provide information, present neighborhood action plans and other plans, and
research information.
3. Researches
information, such as housing and demographic data, and changes, shifts, and
trends concerning land use, by conducting field studies and surveys to collect
data; collects data from other cities and professional publications.
4. Analyzes
information, such as housing and demographic data, and changes, shifts, and
trends concerning land use, to develop recommendations of plans and policies.
5. Writes
plans and policies relating to land use, transportation, capital improvements,
and programming.
6. Writes
sections of plans, reports, and special studies for the Planning Commission,
Board of Directors, and special committees.
7. Operates
a City pool automobile to conduct field studies and surveys and to collect
data.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Researches
County Courthouse records to determine property ownership.
2. Enters
GIS map feature data into a database by utilizing a computer terminal with
ARC/Info Geographic Information System software.
3. Creates
maps requested by Department members by using GIS files and ARC/Info software
to select desired features.
4. Enters
information of approved building permits into a database by utilizing a
microcomputer with database software.
5. Performs
other related duties as required.
