JOB TITLE: Photographer

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To photograph crime and accident scenes and
to develop film and maintain files of photographs.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives immediate supervision from the Crime Scene
Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates
various cameras to photograph major crime and accident scenes, utilizing Crime
Scene Investigation procedures.
2. Develops
color film by mixing appropriate chemicals and operating developing equipment.
3. Operates
equipment to produce enlargements of photographs and negatives for detailed
observation.
4. Testifies
in court cases involving photographic evidence.
5. Maintains
an inventory of supplies and equipment including film, chemicals and camera
equipment; requisitions supplies and equipment.
6. Recommends
purchase of new equipment.
7. Performs
photography work for other City departments.
8. Maintains
files of photographs and negatives taken for the Police Department by incident
number.
9. Operates
and performs routine maintenance on Crime Scene Unit video equipment.
10. Compiles
statistical information for the Crime Scene Unit's monthly report.
11. Produces
identification cards for Department personnel, Fire Department personnel, and
Citizen Police Academy attendees.
12. Provides
graphics support for the Department in the form of graphics, charts, posters,
drawings, and special purpose forms.

scale drawings of crime scenes from rough sketches utilizing computer-aided
drafting.
14. Assists
in special project work, such as blueprints, office remodeling, and fire
evacuation plans.
15. Trains
Crime Scene Specialists in the use of cameras and photographic equipment,
including identification card system, and in the use of computer-aided
drafting.
16. Performs
routine maintenance on identification card system and computer-aided drafting
system to ensure equipment is operating properly.
17. Operates
a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable
knowledge
of the methods and techniques of photography.
Considerable
knowledge
of film processing and developing.
Some
knowledge of
computer fundamentals.
Familiarity
with
drafting and graphics computer software.
Familiarity
with
standard symbols and terminology used in drafting.
Skill in the operation and care
of cameras and photographic equipment.
Skill in the operation of
equipment to print, develop and enlarge photographs.
Skill in the operation of
graphics equipment.
Skill in the operation of an
automatic transmission vehicle.
Ability to perform free-hand
lettering and drawing.
Ability to learn and use drafting
and graphics computer software.
Ability to maintain hard copy and
computer files and records.
ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
high school; at least one (1) year of experience in photography
including the operation of cameras, developing negatives and producing prints; completion
of a standard high school or vocational-technical school course in CAD,
Mechanical Drawing, or a related area OR
at least six (6) months of experience in drafting, mapping, graphics, or
a related area which included some work with drafting and graphics computer
software; OR any combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENT:
Must possess
a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before
employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this
position.
