JOB TITLE: Permit and Records Assistant

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To issue and file permits and to prepare and
microfilm documents related to the Building Codes Division.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Permit and Records
Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains
files containing all documentation related to jobs completed; answers questions
and researches files for copies of microfilm documents as required.
2. Maintains
and supervises the plans and records checkout system; responds to and performs
research pertaining to public requests for records; testifies in court
regarding the accuracy of records as required.
3. Operates
and maintains a microfilm camera, reader-printer, and microfiche jacket
stuffer.
4. Creates
and maintains a filing system for commercial construction plans.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews
one and two family dwelling plans for code compliance, issue permits when in
conformance; examines applications for commercial permits.
2. Makes
recommendations for revisions to procedure guidelines as necessary; creates,
revises, or updates standard forms as required.
3. Indexes,
files, and maintains a microfiche file.
4. Performs
other duties as required.

GENERAL
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs clerical work of routine
difficulty in issuing and filing permits, maintaining records, compiling
data, preparing reports and answering requests for information from members of
the public.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
high school; at least four (4) years of general clerical experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience
and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
