JOB TITLE: Police Officer (Motorcycle Patrol)

OBJECTIVE: To patrol an assigned district in the City
of Little Rock on a motorcycle in order to enforce traffic laws and ordinances.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Police Sergeant
(Traffic Services Section)
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Patrols
an assigned district on a motorcycle to observe traffic violations; issues
citations to violators.
2. Responds
to calls involving traffic accidents; interviews the persons involved and
witnesses to obtain information about the accident.
3. Examines
evidence at traffic accidents (i.e., the vehicles involved, the road
conditions, traffic control devices, obstructions, etc.); utilizes a roller
tape measure to calculate the length of skid marks, if applicable.
4. Sets
up radar to enforce speed zone laws in assigned districts; issues citations as
necessary.
5. Directs
traffic when conditions become hazardous to motorists and/or pedestrians.
6. Escorts
and directs traffic at special events, such as the State Fair, ball games,
parades, and when dignitaries are visiting the City.
7. Trains
new Officers assigned to the Motorcycle Patrol.
8. Performs
other related duties as required.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Telephones
the Police Sergeant (Traffic Enforcement Unit) to receive daily work
assignments.
2. Prepares
detailed accident report forms to document information obtained at each
accident scene; issues citations when necessary.
5. Ensures
construction companies abide by laws pertaining to weight of loaded materials
and debris left on the street; issues citations as necessary.
