JOB TITLE:     Parks Maintenance Worker – Senior

(Parks and Recreation – Park Maintenance – Soccer Fields)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To operate grounds maintenance equipment and perform maintenance activities at Parks and Recreation Department facilities and soccer fields.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives immediate supervision from the Parks Maintenance and Development Foreman (Parks Maintenance).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Performs carpentry and other semiskilled labor in maintaining and constructing buildings, roads, and drainage systems at Parks and Recreation Department facilities and soccer fields.

 

2.         Operates hand tools and light earth-moving equipment, including small backhoe, Bobcat, and front-end loader, to dig trenches for utility lines, building foundations, concrete walkways and drainage systems and to maintain surfaces of City-owned ball fields.

 

3.         Prepares and maintains soccer fields by adding and leveling soil, marking field lines, setting goal posts, and maintaining turf.

 

4.         Mixes and applies chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.

 

5.         Maintains soccer field sprinkler systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of new and old systems; monitors the efficiency of the sprinkler systems and makes necessary adjustments.

 

6.         Performs landscaping duties such as moving and spreading dirt, sodding bare areas, and cutting and removing trees.

 

7.         Assembles and installs pipe and wiring for utility services.

 

8.         Builds forms for concrete work; operates cement mixer to prepare concrete; finishes concrete surfaces.

 

9.         Operates hand and tractor-mounted mowers and hand-held string trimmers to cut grass; performs minor preventive maintenance on tractors and mowers.

 

10.       Provides working supervision to Parks Maintenance Workers and part-time employees.

 

11.       Assists supervisor in the maintenance of the computerized record-keeping system of Parks Maintenance and Improvement projects and assignments.

12.       Operates light and medium duty trucks with trailers to transport equipment, materials, and supplies to work sites, Department facilities, and dumping areas.

 

13.       Reports Department facility, equipment, and buildings needing repair to the supervisor.

 

14.       Cleans rest rooms and picks up debris.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
