JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Parks Maintenance Worker - Senior
(Horticulture)

JOB OBJECTIVE: To perform various horticulture installation
and maintenance activities at Parks and Recreation facilities.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives immediate supervision from
the Parks Maintenance and Development Foreman (Horticulture).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates a bucket truck, hand tools and
earth-moving equipment, including backhoe and front-end loader, to prepare
sites for planting and transplanting of shrubs and small trees; uses shovels,
rakes and other hand tools to maintain areas around plants.
2. Installs, maintains, and repairs
irrigation and sprinkler systems.
3. Operates power hedge trimmers, blowers,
edgers and hand shears to trim plants; sharpens and repairs hand tools.
4. Plants trees, shrubs and other plant
materials; lays sod.
5. Performs greenhouse maintenance
activities daily and reports to Parks Maintenance and Development Foreman.
6. Operates tractor-mounted mowers and
push mowers to cut grass at Parks and Recreation facilities.
7. Drives light and heavy duty trucks with
trailers to transport equipment and materials and to pick up equipment and
supplies; turns in work requests.
8. Mixes and applies chemical agents,
including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
9. Notifies Parks Maintenance and
Development Foreman of major problems with plant damage and disease and damages
to equipment and facilities.
10. Operates a power saw to cut and trim
trees.
11. Provides working supervision to Parks
Maintenance Workers and part-time employees.
12. Sets up and dissembles special event
operations; supports Adopt-A-Park program activities.
13. Sweeps and rakes grounds and parking lots
to remove debris; empties trash barrels.
