JOB TITLE:  Parks Maintenance Worker (Landscape)

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To perform grounds maintenance and landscaping activities at City parks.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives immediate supervision from the Parks Leader.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Operates hand and tractor mowers to cut grass.

 

2.         Checks level of fuel, oil, and other fluids before operating equipment.

 

3.         Operates hand held power trimmer to cut grass around walks and permanent obstacles.

 

4.         Mixes and applies herbicides, fertilizers, and other chemicals to grass, shrubs, and trees.

 

5.         Trims, cuts, and moves shrubs and other plants as needed; repairs hand tools such as shovel, rakes, pruners etc.

 

6.         Maintains greenhouse plants and facilities, by transplanting and watering plants and mowing around facilities.

 

7.         Performs minor repairs on equipment, such as replacing blades, belts and filters; assists in sprinkler installation and maintenance; provides maintenance on drinking and decorative fountains.

 

8.         Prepares soil for planting or laying sod; notifies Horticulturist of major problems with plant damage or disease.

 

9.         Sets-up and dissembles special event operations; supports Adopt-A-Park program activities.

 

10.       Sweeps and/or rakes park grounds and parking lots to remove snow, pine needles, and other debris.

 

11.       Empties trash barrels located on park grounds.

 

12.       Performs landscaping activities throughout the year.

 

13.       Cleans rest rooms as required.

 

14.       Repairs and replaces signs in the parks.

 

15.       Directs the work activities of part-time employees on a per job basis.
