JOB OBJECTIVE: Paints and refurbishes the interior and exterior of City offices, buildings, facilities, and furniture.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Estimates required materials for each project by visiting work sites, reviewing work orders and sketches; purchases required materials.
2. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings, other structures and furniture.
3. Prepares surface, including plaster, for painting by the use of sandpaper, brushes, steel wool, chemicals or special equipment.
4. Removes grease, fills nail holes and cracks, and brushes off areas before applying paint.
5. Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to paint tall buildings and other structures.
6. Applies a primer or sealer to make a suitable surface to apply a finished coat of paint.
7. Maintains paint tools and equipment; notifies supervisor of needed supplies.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operates a computer terminal to update work orders.
2. Mixes required portions of thinner and drying agents to prepare paint to match existing colors.
3. Provides working supervision to Work Release trustees and Job Corps trainees as assigned.
4. Operates a light truck to transport tools, materials, and equipment to various work sites.
5. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods and practices in the application of paint to various types of surfaces.
Knowledge of paint composition and color harmony.
Knowledge of the characteristics of common types of paints and finishes from the standpoint of durability, ease of handling and application.
Knowledge of safety precautions.
Skill in the use and care of painting tools and equipment.
Ability to operate a light truck.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to follow written instructions.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
Ability to follow oral instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with City employees, and members of the public.
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a standard high school or vocational technical school course in the Painting trade, or three (3) years of experience as a Painter. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D
(Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain
licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
