JOB TITLE: Network Coordinator – Senior
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: May 2000

JOB OBJECTIVE: To provide technical assistance and research required to install, monitor, and troubleshoot computer systems networks to meet data processing information needs of City departments.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Systems Network Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides assistance in the development, installation, and maintenance of Internet server and firewall security to control system access and to facilitate “home page” development.
2. Installs and ensures proper configuration of network hardware such as routers, hubs, switches, modems, and gateways to ensure efficient utilization of hardware capabilities.
3. Enters and maintains systems networking addressing required for effective connectivity and security, including IP addressing plus server, domain, and work station identification.
4. Provides technical information and assistance to the Network Coordinators and Information Support Specialists in responding to end user requests.
5. Provides assistance in monitoring network functioning to identify performance problems; provides assistance in the implementation of system changes or configuration modifications to resolve performance problems and increase efficiency of the system.
6. Provides technical assistance for City departments in the review and purchase of local area network hardware and software to ensure that all equipment and software conforms to the City’s networking standards.
7. Provides technical assistance to all City departments as required to maintain local area and wide area networks.
8. Maintains systems networking addressing required for effective connectivity and security, including IP addressing plus server, domain, and work station identification; establishes documentation for the systems addressing process.
9. Maintains documentation and records of systems testing and problem resolutions developed.
10. Conducts training on the proper use of network workstations and personal computers including system and network capabilities.
11. Prepares regular activity reports for supervisor regarding network maintenance activities, utilization, and resolution of systems problems.

12. Serves as project leader for Network Coordinators, Information Support Specialists, and other City personnel involved in the maintenance of local area and wide area networks.
13. Consults with vendors and software publishers, reviews literature and technical documents, and searches the Internet to obtain information for solving problems and investigating purchase options.
14. Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of computer network system protocols.
Considerable knowledge of computer logic, diagramming, and flow charting.
Considerable knowledge of capabilities, utilization, and limitations of data processing equipment.
Good knowledge of computer network system design and development methods and techniques.
Good knowledge of Microsoft NT Network Operating System software.
Good knowledge of network management practices and procedures.
Some knowledge of engineering, accounting, and mathematical principals applied to computer systems design and analysis.
Skill in the operation of a personal computer and peripheral equipment.
Skill in the operation of hand tools.
Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission automobile.
Ability to monitor systems functioning and troubleshoot systems failure.
Ability to review details of user department needs and implement systems applications to maximize performance to meet identified needs.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of at least two (2) years of college or vocational/technical school coursework in Computer Science or a related area; at least two (2) years experience in computer systems network installation and maintenance, utilizing Microsoft NT Network Operating System software, which included at least one (1) year of experience in IP addressing, TCP/IP, and Windows NT, at least one (1) year of experience providing assistance with router configuration, installation, and maintenance, and at least one (1) year of experience in monitoring systems functioning and troubleshooting systems failure; at least one (1) year of leadership experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
