JOB TITLE:  Methamphetamine Initiative Program Coordinator

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  May 1999

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To provide technical assistance with the coordination of the City’s Methamphetamine Initiative.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the Police Captain (Special Investigations).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Provides assistance in the development and implementation of a methamphetamine public awareness campaign; provides information and assistance in the development of promotional materials, including informational brochures and other materials; ensures the distribution of materials.

 

2.         Schedules and attends methamphetamine-related training meetings; provides necessary information and coordination of activities; maintains documentation of attendees and materials presented.

 

3.         Conducts research, analyzes data, and writes narrative and statistical reports assessing programmatic and financial progress toward achieving goals and objectives.

 

4.         Meets with representatives from Methamphetamine Initiative partner agencies to provide and exchange information regarding program goals and objectives.

 

5.         Provides information to evaluators, monitors, and advisors regarding the Methamphetamine Initiative.

 

6.         Establishes the Methamphetamine Telephone Hotline; monitors calls placed to the Hotline; communicates information to the appropriate personnel.

 

7.         Assigns and directs the work activities of assigned part-time employees.

 

8.         Maintains hard copy and computer files and records relating to the Methamphetamine Initiative.

 

9.         Operates a microcomputer, utilizing database, mapping, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Ensures that programmatic and fiscal activities comply with federal grant guidelines; monitors expenditures; monitors budget printouts to ensure budgeted amounts are not exceeded.

2.         Schedules Methamphetamine Initiative Group meetings, including securing meeting rooms and making catering and other arrangements; prepares and mails meeting notices; prepares and distributes agendas; attends meetings to provide staff support and to note items requiring further attention; takes minutes of meetings, types, and distributes to members.

 

3.         Provides information to and makes requests of consultants regarding Methamphetamine Initiative computer database design and development; recommends changes and modifications.

 

4.         Prepares information, such as news releases, bulletins, and other materials, for release to the media through the Police Department Public Information Office.

 

5.         Monitors inventory and places orders for educational and informational materials such as brochures, forms, pamphlets, and posters.

 

6.         Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to prepare informational and promotional materials, such as bulletins, informational brochures, and news releases.

 

Ability to monitor inventory of educational and informational materials.

 

Ability to assist in the development of public awareness campaigns.

 

Ability to establish and maintain hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.

 

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

 

Completion of two (2) years of college coursework in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration, or a related field; at least two (2) years of experience in one of the following areas:  in program development or management; in providing clerical, professional, or technical assistance in the administration of community programs, community development programs, or public programs; in substance abuse education, intervention, prevention, and/or treatment; or a related area; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
