JOB TITLE:  Meter Repair Worker II

 

MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE:  June 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To repair, maintain, and collect coins from City of Little Rock parking meters.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Receives general supervision from the General Foreman - Traffic.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.         Empties coins from parking meter collection boxes into a locked collection cart, following an established schedule; delivers collection cart to the bank for the deposit of coins and storage of cart.

 

2.         Receives and investigates meter complaints from supervisor, citizens and Police Department personnel and performs maintenance.

 

3.         Checks meters to ensure functioning; tests timing mechanisms' accuracy by comparison to other clocks.

 

4.         Notifies Police Department personnel of malfunctioning meters that have prompted parking ticket challenges.

 

5.         Disassembles meters, cleans, replaces components, and tests timing mechanism; retools or replaces mechanisms.

 

6.         Installs new meter posts and meters according to work orders; removes meters from street construction areas as directed by Engineering staff or listed in work order; drives City vehicle to work sites.

 

7.         Paints meter heads and police fine boxes; repairs or replaces fine box locks.

 

8.         Maintains separate master listings for meter locations and a separate inventory of meter repair parts.

 

9.         Notifies Foreman of meter parts and other supplies to be ordered.

 

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Adjusts or replaces components of malfunctioning meters including locks, cases, and timing mechanisms at their location; removes and replaces meters which cannot be repaired on site for repair in the meter shop.

 

2.         Cleans and maintains the meter shop and shop equipment.

 

3.         Maintains daily records of meter service history for preventive maintenance and/or replacement of meters.

4.         Instructs assigned Meter Repair Worker I and/or Sign Maintenance Worker in the installation, maintenance, repair or replacement of meter posts and heads.

 

5.         Operates a microcomputer utilizing specialized software for electronic parking meters.

 

6.         Performs other related duties as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provides direct supervision to a Meter Repair Worker I and a Sign Maintenance Worker.

Skill in the operation of hand and light power tools.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

 

Completion of high school; at least two (2) years of experience in watch making or the repair and maintenance of timing mechanisms or coin operated mechanisms; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

 

Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
