JOB TITLE: Meter Repair Worker I

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To provide assistance in the repair and
maintenance of parking meters; collects monies from parking meters.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives immediate supervision from the Meter Repair
Worker II.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Collects
coins from parking meters according to an established schedule by removing
collection boxes and emptying coins into a locked collection cart; delivers
collection cart to the bank where coins are counted and deposited and cart is
stored.
2. Checks
meters in the field for proper function; tests the accuracy of timing
mechanisms by comparing them to other clocks; operates a City pool automobile.
3. Operates
hand and power tools to install new meter posts and meters.
4. Maintains
a master listing of meters and meter locations; maintains an inventory listing
of meter repair parts on hand.
5. Maintains
a daily record of meters repaired, replaced and damaged and new meters placed
into service.
6. Operates
a microcomputer utilizing specialized software for electronic parking meters.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receives
and investigates complaints of malfunctioning parking meters and performs maintenance.
2. Identifies
malfunctioning meters that have prompted parking ticket challenges by citizens
and notifies the Police Department.
3. Adjusts
or replaces components of malfunctioning meters in the field; removes and
replaces meters which cannot be repaired in the field.
4. Adjusts
or replaces components of malfunctioning meters at their location; removes and
replaces meters which cannot be repaired on-site.
5. Cleans
and maintains Meter Shop and shop equipment.
6. Paints
meter heads and police fine boxes; repairs and replaces locks on fine boxes.

7. Notifies
General Foreman (Traffic) of needed repair parts.
8. Performs
other related duties as required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Some
knowledge
of repair and maintenance of timing mechanism.
Some
knowledge
of the repair and maintenance of coin operated mechanisms.
Familiarity
with
principles of time-keeping mechanisms.
Skill in the operation of a
microcomputer.
Skill in the operation of an
automatic transmission automobile.
Ability to repair and adjust small
mechanisms.
Ability to locate specific meter
locations from maps and descriptions.
Ability to communicate effectively,
both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain written records
of meter locations and daily work activities.
ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
At least
one (1) year of experience in watch-making or the repair and maintenance of timing or
coin-operated mechanisms; OR any
equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.

REQUIREMENT:
Must possess
a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before
employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this
position.
