JOB TITLE: Leader (Golf Course)

JOB
OBJECTIVE: To perform golf course maintenance and
improvement activities and to serve as backup for the Foreman I (Golf Course).
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Foreman I (Golf
Course).
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates
or directs the operation of tractor mounted mowing equipment and push mowers to
cut grass on the golf course and around the golf course facilities.
2. Mixes
and applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
3. Sods
and aerates green and tee areas requiring new ground cover; top-dresses greens
and tees by operating top-dressing equipment to apply sand.
4. Serves
as backup to the Foreman I (Golf Course) in his absence.
5. Advises
supervisor of necessary changes to golf course to improve course playability;
implements short and long-term plans for course improvement or maintenance.
6. Sharpens
and changes blades on mowing equipment; performs minor preventive maintenance
on mowing equipment; performs additional equipment and building maintenance
during inclement weather.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains
golf course sprinkler systems, including installation, repair and maintenance
of new and old systems; monitors the efficiency of the sprinkler systems and
makes the necessary adjustments.
2. Turns
the sprinkler system on and off; sets sprinkler timer for each green.
3. Provides
direct working supervision to Parks Maintenance Workers and part-time
employees.
4. Operates
light duty truck to pick up needed equipment and supplies.
5. Sets
or directs the setting of golf course boundaries, traffic barriers, tees, and
cup locations for tournaments and daily play.
6. Performs
equipment and building maintenance during inclement weather.
7. Performs other related duties as
required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good
knowledge
of golf course maintenance, turf equipment, and supplies.
Good
knowledge
of plant diseases and destructive insects.
Good
knowledge
of the properties, use, and application of various chemicals, including
fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and growth control agents.

of environmental requirements of various types of grasses, shrubs, an trees.
Familiarity
with the
maintenance and repair of sprinkler and irrigation systems.
Skill in the use of traffic
mounted mowing equipment, chemical spraying equipment, and light earth moving
equipment.
Skill in the use of hand tools.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to maintain detailed
records.
Ability to detect plant diseases or
damage on the golf course.
Ability to set up the golf course
for daily play and tournaments.
Ability to direct the activities of
unskilled and semiskilled laborers.
Ability to direct and perform
maintenance on sprinkler systems.
ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
high school; at least one (1) year of experience in golf course grounds
maintenance, or a related area; at least one (1) year of supervisory
experience; OR any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENT:
Must possess
or be able to obtain a State of Arkansas Class "D" Driver’s license
before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this
position.
