JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Leader (Athletics/Playgrounds)
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: April 1997

JOB OBJECTIVE: To provide working supervision to
employees engaged in the maintenance of City ball fields and the preparation of
fields for ball games.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives immediate supervision from
the Recreation Supervisor (Athletics).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads workers and participates in the
dragging of ball fields to level soil before and between ball games.
2. Prepares or supervises the preparation
of ball fields for use by filling holes, marking foul lines, and setting bases.
3. Completes general maintenance and
repair of playground equipment, ball fields, sprinkler systems, and other
equipment at park facilities.
4. Operates light duty trucks for
maintenance and ball field preparation projects.
5. Maintains grounds by watering,
trimming, and applying herbicides and insecticides.
6. Assigns and reviews the work activities
of assigned employees.
7. Completes a daily worksheet noting time
worked by assigned employees.
8. Ensures the picking up of litter from
the ball park grounds.
9. Performs minor maintenance on equipment
such as weed eaters, lawn mowers, edgers, etc., and vehicles.
10. Repairs and cleans fences, dugouts,
bleachers, rest rooms, and other facilities in park areas.
11. Notifies supervisor of major problems
with equipment, maintenance needed at park facilities, and equipment and
materials needed.
SECONDARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receives food for concession stands
when delivered.
2. Performs other related duties as
required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides immediate supervision to
employees of Park Maintenance Worker(s) and part-time employees.

variety of maintenance or landscaping duties and providing working supervision
to a crew of workers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of the procedures
used in general plant maintenance, including transplanting, fertilizing, and
pruning.
Some knowledge of grass, tree, plant
and shrub varieties.
Some knowledge of concrete finishing
methods.
Some knowledge of plumbing fixtures
and equipment.
Some knowledge of ball field
maintenance.
Some knowledge of safety and first
aid.

Some knowledge of vehicle
maintenance procedures.
Skill in the operation of light duty vehicles
and earth-moving equipment, and tractor-mounted chemical spraying equipment.
Skill in the operation of hand and light power
tools.
Skill in the use, maintenance and repair of
hand and power tools.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions
of pumps, compressors, and related equipment.
Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints,
schematic drawings and equipment repair manuals.
Ability to determine equipment and material
needs for assigned projects.
Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively
with subordinates, supervisors, members of the public, and employees of other
city departments.
Ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to assign and review the work activities
of assigned employees.
Ability to perform manual labor.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of high school or vocational technical course in
landscaping or building trades; at least one (1) year of experience working
with equipment and hand tools; at least one (1) year of experience in
related landscaping and general maintenance work; at least one (1) year of
leadership experience; OR any
equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial
Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the
duration of employment in this position.
