JOB TITLE: Intake Specialist

OBJECTIVE: To complete applications for JTPA
participation and determine the eligibility of applicants; to counsel
applicants regarding training programs available from JTPA and other agencies.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Intake and
Assessment Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Interviews
JTPA program applicants to determine their eligibility, skills, and training
needs; completes an application and other required forms for each applicant.
2. Provides
information and answers questions regarding JTPA regulations, applicant
eligibility, training and services available from other agencies.
3. Determines
applicant eligibility and training needs based on information provided and JTPA
regulations.
4. Refers
eligible applicants for testing to the JTPA Assessment Specialist.
5. Refers
eligible applicants to appropriate JTPA participating agency; maintains a file
of information on each applicant referred.
6. Provides
information to participating agencies regarding each applicant and JTPA
regulations.
7. Maintains
daily log listing information on each applicant interviewed; prepares weekly
reports listing number of applicants, eligibility, determination and referrals.
8. Recruits,
screens, certifies, and refers eligible applicants for special training
programs.
9. Assists
in providing training and technical assistance to subcontractors and in
facilitating the Pacific Institute.
10. Maintains
confidential files on applicants in compliance with ADA.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides
vocational counseling to applicants regarding training programs and occupations
which best fit their skills and backgrounds.
2. Updates
directory of supportive services available to JTPA participants and applicants.
3. Performs other related duties as
required.

REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good
knowledge
of interviewing and vocational counseling techniques.
Good
knowledge
of available vocational training programs and services.
Good
knowledge
of applicable federal, state, and local JTPA regulations.
Ability to read and interpret JTPA
regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively,
both orally and in writing with employees of governmental agencies or
participating agencies and JTPA.
Ability to perform mathematical
calculations accurately.
Ability to maintain files of
applicant information.

ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of
two years of college course work in Psychology, Sociology, or a related area; at
least one year of experience in interviewing, vocational counseling, or a
related area; OR any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.
