JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Impound Attendant I
MAINTENANCE REVIEW DATE: February 1999

JOB OBJECTIVE: To assist in vehicle inventory activities for the impound lot.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Receives general supervision from the Impound Services Shift Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assigns impound numbers to property impounded in the facility to ensure proper identification and relocation.
2. Records wrecker driver tow ticket, inventory sheet, steering wheel and dashboard tags with correct impound number to identify vehicles and property with all records.
3. Writes impound number on the front or rear windshield of each vehicle, or designated areas of other property and parts for identification.
4. Verifies impound number, license plate and vehicle identification numbers (VIN) match customer receipts before release of vehicle; verifies VIN match bills of sale before release of auctioned vehicles.
5. Escorts owners to vehicles located on the impound lot.
6. Drives wrecker to tow immovable vehicles.
7. Performs perimeter checks on the facility grounds for evidence of any break-in or vandalism to City property.
8. Directs citizens to vehicles available for sale at auctions.
9. Records physical inventory and vehicle conditions of impound property.
10. Answers telephone; directs caller to the appropriate staff and provides information requested.
11. Removes trash and debris to maintain clean lots and property.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as backup to the Impound Attendant II by inputting impounded property information into the computer terminal, i.e. VIN number, customer’s name, and license tag number.
2. Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Skill in the operation of standard and automatic transmission automobiles.
Skill in the operation of a fork-lift.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to accurately transfer numbers and letters.
Ability to complete forms and simple reports.

Ability to enter data into and retrieve data from a computer.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of high school; OR
any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
